Hello Everyone, welcome back after our little break in the weather here. Starting Thursday morning, a strong winter storm will impact Utah for several days. In addition to this storm arriving on the 1st, another system will arrive around the 5th. The cover photo here is the current water vapor satellite at 1 AM showing the awesome structure of this arctic cyclone.
As the storm arrives early Thursday, things will be relatively warm with precipitation mostly falling as rain for areas outside the mountains. This finally appears to be a good soaker for Southern Utah. Showers will build into Southwest Utah before sunrise, and into the Northern communities mid-morning. The storm will continue into Friday morning when some winter precipitation is expected across parts of the Wasatch Front down to Cedar City. A mix of rain and snow will continue through Saturday with snow levels falling again Friday night and staying cold Saturday.
Some areas of Southwest Utah are expected to see more than an Inch of rain fall before the end of the storm on Saturday. The mountains of Southwest Utah including Pine Valley and Cedar Mountain may see in excess of 12 inches of snow at high elevations. Areas further North towards the Tushar Mountains may still see 9+ inches. The mountains up north will see a moderate storm with up to about 6″. The mountains will likely see some stronger winds with this storm as well.
