Spencer Cox, the Republican governor of Utah, expressed his frustration this week with the ongoing war on Taylor Swift coming from media figures and political leaders on the right.
Cox, who is the head of the National Governors Association (NGA), is leading an effort to tamp down partisanship in the U.S. and doubled down on that message while blasting the endless culture wars.
Cox made his comment in reply to a conservative pundit who wrote, “Conspiracy aside and simply talking strategy: While I don’t think either makes a large impact, Republicans will lose far more voters attacking 2 popular and likable celebrities like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce than Dems could ever get from a hypothetical endorsement.”
“I can’t believe we are making this political,” Cox responded to the tweet, adding:
Most Americans are exhausted at the politics of division infiltrating everything (they hate it when the left does it and I’m confident they will hate the right doing it). This election is going to suck enough without us making up more stupid stuff to fight about. Just let Travis and Taylor do their thing. Cheer for your team. Cheer for football. Listen to your music. Let’s just take a deep breath and chill.
