Atmospheric River Storm Monday Update

Hello Everyone. Here’s an update on the “atmospheric river” storm currently on it’s way through the Western US. Bad news, particularly for our neighbors in California – the storm system itself has slowed down a touch, meaning it’ll linger over the same locations for longer dropping more rain and adding to the flood and landslide risk. For us here in Utah, that means that things have got behind schedule, and that’s why we haven’t seen as much action here as was expected. This has begun to change this morning with a long band of rain/snow showers extending from Lincoln Co NV in the Southwest Forecast Area all the way North to the Cache Valley and Bear Lake. At this time, snow is really only occurring in the mountains with the exception of parts of the high desert in Lincoln (NV), Iron, and Beaver Counties. This line of weather is doing what is referred to as “training”, meaning that in addition to progressing forwards, the line is following itself sideways like the cars on a long freight train.
