Utah Troops to Texas for Border Security Mission

Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has announced he will be sending Utah National Guard members and law enforcement officers to the Texas border to assist in the “Operation Lone Star” border security mission there.

Texas requested Utah’s assistance in the mission days after Gov. Cox visited the Lone Star State’s border with Mexico along with other 14 fellow governors.

The Utah Highway Patrol estimates the month-long deployment will cost nearly $100,000 while the two-week deployment of Utah National Guard members will cost about $50,000. Funding will come from the Governor’s Office Emergency Fund.

The Utah Highway Patrol Officers and National Guard Troops will join soldiers from Louisiana and Indiana whose governors this week also announced deployments to the Texas Border with Mexico in support of “Operation Lone Star.”
