‘Lightning Expected’: Fire officials to keep all resources within Utah amid storm conditions

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Wildland fire officials have decided to keep all state firefighting resources in Utah due to fire conditions and the possibility of increased fire activity, according to Utah Fire Info .

“The next week’s fire weather forecast is predicting continued hot and dry conditions as well as a significant increase in lightning activity across Utah,” a press release from Utah Interagency Fire states. “Given the weather predictions, the primary wildland fire management agencies are working to balance the need for firefighting resources within Utah with the ongoing needs of our neighboring states with significant fire activity.”

Specifically, the Great Basin Coordination Center (GBCC) has forecasted the potential for storm systems to hit Utah over the weekend, bringing an increased likelihood for dry lightning, and in turn, fire danger across the state.

The GBCC has already issued a Fuel and Fire Behavior Advisory , in effect through Aug. 8, due to conditions in the state. The advisory states the following conditions are either happening now or will be seen in the near future:
