Few more days of above-average heat, fall weather just around the corner

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Sunday, Utah! Today will be about as warm as yesterday with temperatures still 10-15 degrees above seasonal norms. Most valleys will be in the low 80s with a few upper 70s, higher elevations will top out in the low to mid 70s, and hot spots will see upper 80s to low 90s. Conditions stay dry as well with only a few clouds spawning here and there.

The pattern stays consistent through Tuesday, but that starts to change by midweek. On Wednesday a strong cold front will be approaching from the northwest bringing warm gusty southerly winds ahead of it. The dry conditions, heat, and gusty winds are recipes for an elevated fire risk. Keep your eyes peeled for possible fire alerts.

Wednesday night we’ll see moisture start filling in which will bring increasing cloud coverage in the evening across the state. By Thursday we’re looking at mostly cloudy skies and a significant drop in temperatures. Northern Utah will finally break free of the 80s and drop to the 60s on Thursday, which is much colder than what we’ve experienced so far this month, but is what we would generally expect this time of year. Southern Utah will start to cool somewhat, but Friday is when it’ll really drop.
