Fall storm brings widespread freeze warnings throughout Utah

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A late October storm bringing widespread rain and snow throughout Utah is feeling more like a winter storm as a freeze warning is issued across the state.

The National Weather Service issued Monday evening and is expected to be in place until Wednesday morning. The warning spreads from Ogden, Bountiful, and Salt Lake City on the Wasatch Front to Price, Torrey, and Loa in central Utah.

The warning advised Utahns that temperatures could reach sub-freezing lows as cold as 27 degrees Fahrenheit.

“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected plumbing,” The freeze warning reads.

The dropping temperatures are bringing snow closer to the valley floor as the calendar inches closer to the winter season. Snow levels are expected to reach the benches of the Wasatch Front at about 5,000 feet in elevation. For reference, the benches start around 4,500 feet and stretch up to about 6,500 feet. The University of Utah sits on the lower benches at about 4,700 feet.
