Happy National Cat Day!! If you have a cat, make sure to show them some love today. In honor of National Cat Day, we’re giving you a special cat treat recipe just for them. It’s significantly cheaper than storebought treats, and you know exactly what is in it. This is all you need to make about 100 treats:
Ingredients:
- 2 boneless and skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into chunks
- 1 egg
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1 tbsp catnip
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
Set your oven to 350°F. Begin by boiling the chicken pieces until fully cooked, then set them aside to cool.
In a blender or food processor, combine the spinach, oats, chicken, egg, and catnip. Pulse on a low setting, blending until the mixture is combined but still a bit chunky.
Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and add 1/4 cup of flour. Knead the dough with your hands until it’s no longer sticky, then place it on a flour-dusted surface. Use a rolling pin to spread the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. With a rolling or pizza cutter, slice the dough into 1/2-inch strips, then cut across in the opposite direction to form 1/2-inch squares. (See image below for example)
