Derek Brown projected to be first new Utah attorney general in over a decade

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — According to unofficial preliminary results, the Associated Press has projected that Republican Derek Brown will replace outgoing Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes.

Official results from the election’s canvassing will not be available until Monday, Nov. 25.

Brown would be the first new attorney general in Utah in over a decade. He appears to have won over a field of five candidates, including Democrat Rudy Bautista, Michelle Quist of the United Utah Party, Libertarian Andrew McCullough and independent Austin Hepworth.

Brown’s website describes him as having a “strong commitment to conservative principles, and a fervent desire to safeguard the integrity of the Constitution.” He has received endorsements from prominent Utah Republicans, including Gov. Spencer Cox. and former Governor Gary Herbert.

Values listed on his website include “protecting our constitutional rights”, “standing up to big tech, big pharma, and big government”, and “fighting for Utah lands and Utah energy.”
