SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Wednesday, Utah! A strong ridge of high pressure is setting up over the western U.S. and will stick around through the weekend.
A small system moving through Montana today will keep things stirred up just enough to delay deep valley inversions. But once that system shifts east, the ridge will strengthen, and by the end of the week warmer temperatures over the higher elevations will let those inversions settle in.
Inversion locks in and hazy skies are returning to Utah
The good news? These inversions won’t last as long as the ones after Thanksgiving. A weak system passing through Idaho and Montana on Sunday might bring some light rain or snow to far northern Utah mountain areas, but most of the moisture will likely stay north.
Cooler temperatures and increasing southerly flow will help ease the inversions, though it might not be enough to completely clear out the valleys.
Another weak system on Monday could bring some light precipitation to northern Utah and southwest Wyoming, along with cooler air and stronger flow to help ventilate the valleys a bit more.
