SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Friday, Utah! We’re closing out the workweek and kicking off the weekend with dry, stable conditions statewide and a mix of sun and clouds.
Temperatures are running about 10-15 degrees above seasonal norms. Daytime highs today will climb into the upper 50s to mid 60s for southern Utah, upper 40s to low 50s for the Wasatch Front, and thanks to an inversion, higher terrain will be warmer than valleys with highs in the low to mid 50s for the Wasatch Back.
An inversion is in place trapping particulate matter and smog underneath the warmer air aloft. Air quality for northern valleys, including mountain valleys, will be in the “Moderate” category. Poor air quality sticks around until Sunday morning when a system passes to the north bringing a breeze to help mix up the air and clear the inversion out. There’s a chance that light precipitation clears it further in the northernmost parts of the state on Monday morning, but it’ll be brief.
