SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Tuesday, Utah! A storm system is stretching from California through Utah and is shifting south, expected to form a closed low over the desert southwest by this afternoon.
At the same time, high pressure is building into the Pacific Northwest, which will bring more northeasterly winds over Utah today.
The main concern with these winds is canyon and downslope gusts along the Wasatch Front and in lower Washington County. For the Wasatch Front, the strongest winds are expected late this afternoon into early evening, with a good chance of hitting gusts around 45 mph. Given the setup, it looks like winds will stay in the advisory range. The Wind Advisory is in place today and will continue through 6 am Wednesday for the Wasatch Front.
In Washington County, winds have been gusty since the cold front passed last evening but haven’t quite hit advisory levels yet. They’re expected to strengthen tonight into tomorrow morning, so the Wind Advisory remains in effect there too, through noon Wednesday.
