Meta/Facebook is paying users
In April Patch revealed that Meta/Facebook users in Virginia were eligible for their share of a $725 million class action privacy settlement. Several people I spoke with at the time said they did not desire to fill out the paperwork because the settlement amount would probably not be worth it.
According to the Associated Press, any American with a Facebook account at any point since May 2007 can apply to receive a payment. How much cash each person can expect is still a little murky, since the split will depend on how many users file claims.
A little is preferable to nothing
I had forgotten about the lawsuit until I received a payment from Facebook last week in my PayPal account for $14.19. If you filled out the paperwork for your share of the settlement you might want to check and see if you have been paid.
Receiving just under $15.00 is small in comparison with the lawyers who received one-quarter of the $725 million payout but it’s better than nothing. Anyone who filed and their claim was rejected should have been notified by now.
