The Pop-Tarts Creator has died but his legacy continues
People is reporting that the man who is responsible for the Pop-Tart passed away at 96. The backstory of Post’s toaster pastry which debuted in 1964 will be shown in the upcoming Netflix comedy film Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. Jerry Seinfeld stars and the movie is set to be released on May 3.
Kellogg’s hired Bill Post, a former Keebler employee, for the task and created their own breakfast pastry in just four months. Initially called Fruit Scones, the name was soon changed to Pop-Tarts as a pun on the then-popular Pop Art movement. (Wikipedia)

Pop-Tarts were immediately popular and the first shipment to stores sold out in two weeks. Kellogg’s ran advertisements apologizing for the empty shelves and this increased demand for the product. Bill Post was a widower who had been married for 72 years. He leaves behind a son, a daughter, and 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
