John Tyler

Sixth on the list is the 10th US president, Tyler who was born to a prominent slave-holding family in Charles City, Virginia. He was Herison’s successor after serving as his Vice President and clashed with his party the Whigs. This led to his entire cabinet resigning.

When Virginia seceded from the Union in 1861 Tyler was elected to the Confederate House of Representatives which led to his former political colleagues in Washington, DC labeling him a traitor.
