Boar’s Head told to recall 207,000 pounds of deli meat processed at plant in Virginia

Deli-meat manufacturer Boar’s Head Provisions Co. is recalling liverwurst products made at one of its Virginia plants out of concern they may include listeria.

In addition, the company is recalling ham, bologna, salami and bacon products that were processed on the same days and line as the liverwurst. In all, approximately 207,000 pounds of meat are being pulled.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the recall Friday morning. According to that statement, the department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service was told that samples of the deli products taken in Baltimore, Maryland, tested positive for the bacteria.

USDA said the products were distributed to restaurants and retailers nationwide.

The products being recalled were made between June 11-27 at the Boar’s Head processing plant in Jarratt, about 40 miles south of Petersburg.

Products being recalled include:

  • 3.5-lb. loaves in plastic casing, or various weight packages sliced in retail delis, containing “Boar’s Head Strassburger Brand Liverwurst MADE IN VIRGINIA.” The products shipped to retailers bear sell-by dates ranging July 25, 2024, to Aug. 30, 2024, printed on the side of the packaging.
