Social Security Recipients in Virginia to Receive October Payments in September

WINCHESTER, VA – Social Security recipients in Virginia will receive their October payments earlier than usual this year.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that payments scheduled for October 1 will be issued in September instead.

According to the Social Security Administration, this adjustment is due to October 1 falling on a Sunday, prompting the SSA to distribute payments on the last business day of September.

This change affects Virginians who typically receive their benefits on the first of the month, including many who rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

The early payment aims to ensure that beneficiaries have timely access to funds necessary for their monthly expenses, especially those living on fixed incomes.

However, recipients should note that this early distribution does not mean an extra payment for October. The subsequent payment will follow the usual schedule in November, according to the Social Security Administration.

The SSA advises Virginia recipients to plan their budgets accordingly and to monitor their bank accounts for the adjusted payment timing.
