Virginia’s Warm Springs was the first SPA facility in the US

Warm Springs is the oldest SPA in the nation

Virginia has many firsts, and one of them is the nation’s first SPA facility. Only In Your State says there is evidence that Native Americans used Warm Springs in Hot Springs for healing more than 9,000 years ago.

The first structures were built around the pools so that travelers could use them, they were the very first of their kind. In other words, the Warm Springs Pools represent the first spa structure in the U.S., built circa 1761.

The Warm Springs. SPA was originally a men’s bath but now allows women. Visitors still travel to Hot Springs to benefit from the healing minerals. The warm springs flow at a rate of 1,700,000 gallons of water daily and remain at an ideal 98-degree temperature.
