State Fair of Virginia Returns Soon to Meadow Event Park

Doswell, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) – The annual State Fair of Virginia returns to Meadow Event Park in just a few days. This year’s fair theme is “Where Home Grown Happens.”

The fair runs from Sept. 27 to Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Meadow Event Park in Doswell. It will feature dozens of food options, concerts, educational expos, a petting zoo, a stunt show, competitions and more.

New experiences this year include:

• Alpaca Days on Sept. 28 and 29. Fairgoers can see alpacas, touch their fleece and shop for alpaca goods;
• Lawn mower racing Sept. 28;
• Culinary competitions for potato recipes, vegetable casseroles and recipes that feature hummus;
• Supreme Overall Showman contest category in the youth livestock program, a new scholarship opportunity for young people exhibiting beef cattle, goats, sheep and swine;
• An artisans’ market of handcrafted goods.

“One thing you will always see at the fair are animals and crops raised by the current and rising generations of Virginia’s farmers,” said fair spokesperson Pam Wiley. “But you also can see some really amazing goods that people all over Virginia have made, or restored, or baked, or canned—and hear music with Virginia roots. We’re showcasing the Commonwealth’s common wealth!”
