In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Miyares states Jeffrey has arrived safely to a state-of-the-art facility where his “wellbeing will be his top priority.”

Jeffery has been examined by the USDA following the transport and given a clean bill of health.

The ongoing case of the Natural Bridge Zoo started in December of 2023 with the seizure of 71 animals after allegations of neglect and poor living conditions at the facility.

In early October, a ruling by the Rockbridge County Circuit Court ruled that Jeffrey and three other giraffes, including a pregnant female were to immediately be relocated from the zoo.

“Animal cruelty cases are the ones that break your heart,” said Attorney General Jason Miyares. “Wrinkles the Giraffe and her family will find safe, loving environments who know how to care for them. My congratulations goes out to our Animal Law Unit for stepping up and bringing justice to Wrinkles and her playmates. Every Virginian with a heart looks forward to seeing Wrinkles in her forever home.”
