Virginia is home to many television shows, especially those with federal government activities, because of the state’s close proximity to Washington, D.C. It’s not surprising that those subjects are often the center of TV shows filmed or set inside Virginia.

To celebrate World Television Day on November 21, BetVirginia.com made a list of the best shows set in the state. The site designed a scoring system that uses iMDB ratings, Rotten Tomatoes Audience score, Rotten Tomatoes Critic score, and awards recognition.

“The Walking Dead”
“The Walking Dead” finished well ahead of the next closest show, which was Showtime’s “Homeland” for the top spot statewide. The long-running zombie series “The Walking Dead,” which ran on AMC from 2010 to 2022 and had numerous spinoffs, has the most points even though it was not a government-related show. “Quantico,” which ran on ABC from 2015 to 2018 was a government-related show, received only 44 points.
