Some Virginians might disagree, but a new analysis shows Virginia ranks among some of the safest states in the country. The study includes more than just crime statistics.
A new analysis of safety across the United States ranks Virginia as the 15th safest state in the nation.
Rankings indicators
There were 52 key safety indicators used to get the rankings. The indicators were grouped into five categories, and each state was given a score out of 100.
- Personal and Residential Safety
- Financial Safety
- Road Safety
- Workplace Safety
- Emergency Preparedness
WalletHub evaluated the above groups, and Virginia ranked 15th among all 50 states, with an overall score of 54.19 out of 100. Virginia was among the states that scored highest in workplace safety, which helped boost its ranking. The state also ranked in the top five for the lowest number of bullying incidents.
