Puyallup’s $2.5 million ‘welcome’ arches might get pricier. Mayor has concerns

An almost $2.5 million project to construct two gateway arches in downtown Puyallup may cost more than initially anticipated.

During the Oct. 6 city council meeting, Mayor Ned Witting moved an item out of the consent agenda concerning the Gateway Arches Project. Witting said in the meeting that he did that so there would be further discussion on the item, which was to authorize a contract amendment with the project consultant for additional design services. The consent agenda is a list of routine measures that the council approves in a batch with one vote at the start of each meeting, but council members can ask to remove items from that list for discussion and a separate vote.
