Washington Lawmakers Introduce Bill Allowing 21-Year-Olds to Legally Cultivate Cannabis at Home!

In a new move, Washington State lawmakers are pushing for legislation that would allow individuals to grow cannabis plants at home legally.

Over a decade since the legalization of recreational marijuana, the proposed House Bill 2194 aims to make personal cultivation a lawful practice. Let’s delve into the details.

Cultivation Limits and Legal Implications

The legislation, greenlit by the House Regulated Substances and Gaming Committee, proposes allowing individuals aged 21 or older to cultivate up to four cannabis plants, with a cap of 10 plants per household.

If passed, growing more than four but fewer than 11 plants could result in a civil infraction. However, possessing 11 or more plants might lead to felony charges, carrying penalties of up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

A Long-Awaited Move

Since the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2012, there has been a growing interest in allowing home cultivation. While registered medical marijuana patients currently have limited cultivation rights, this new legislation extends the privilege to the general adult population. The move reflects a broader trend in several states, including Oregon, where growing a limited number of cannabis plants at home is legal.
