Washington will be seeing 5,000 new electric vehicle charging stations

STATEWIDE — Big changes are coming to Washington’s “Electric Vehicle Charging Station” infrastructure.

The Washington Department of Commerce said it’s going to fund nearly 5,000 charging sites.

Electric vehicle charging stations are being built at more and more businesses across central and eastern Washington. Some people have changing stations in their home.

Gov. Inslee said its important that everybody has access, especially those who are in places most impacted by pollution.

A map of where the state is planning on building thousands of charging stations show most will be placed on the West side and the Spokane area. A few locations are planned for the Tri-Cities only because of this funding.

In January, the City of Pasco got a grand from the Department of Ecology to install nine charging stations in the City Hall parking lot.

City Officials said the stations are intended to give the city fleet a place to charge for free but the public will have access for a fee.
