Rantz: Washington will permanently install freeway speed cameras

Washington lawmakers are laying the groundwork for a permanent new fixture on state highways: speed cameras. The bipartisan House Bill 2485 introduces a pilot program for automated speed enforcement cameras on a small number of highways within the state of Washington. The pilot is supposed to test the cameras’ effectiveness in reducing speeding and, by extension, accidents on specific high-risk highways. During the pilot, drivers would not receive infractions, which betrays the true purpose of this program.
