After the Monuments Project meeting last week, I checked with others who attended the community conversation at the Lewis County Historical Museum on Oct. 28. “I am really happy that the Washington State Historical Society is reaching out and asking for the public’s opinions instead of just doing what a few people who are not involved with the community want to do,” said Jason Mattson, the museum’s executive director. “This kind of public engagement will bring more attention to the landmarks than would be the case if nothing was said at all or if they simply removed them for being ‘out of date’ with the current ways of seeing historic topics.”
