Washington state faces $10-12 billion budget shortfall

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Office of Financial Management (OFM) has announced that Washington state needs an additional $10 to $12 billion to balance its $134.1 billion budget. This shortfall is attributed to increased demand for state services, such as kindergarten and childcare programs, coupled with inflation and the costs of maintaining current programs. The state also anticipates a decrease in revenue.
