MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction on Tuesday announced a nearly $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to boost career and technical education.
The DPI was one of 19 grantees in the country to be given funds through the Perkins Innovation and Modernization, Career Connected High Schools grant program.
Grant funds are meant to help get students ready for life after graduation. That includes career guidance, funding for dual credit or concurrent enrollment classes, work-based learning opportunities, and opportunities for students to earn industry-recognized credentials.
“We must break down barriers so that every kid can access meaningful learning, relevant to their interests and goals in life,” State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said. “That’s why I am so excited to see this investment in Wisconsin, and so looking forward to seeing the innovation career and technical education continues to drive.”
The DPI’s grant, worth $1.475 million, is funded for three years but could be extended to five.
