Roger Roth is a former prominent legislator in the State of Wisconsin. A Republican, Roth has in recent times associated himself with unfounded conspiracy theories and efforts to overturn Wisconsin’s vote in the 2020 U.S. Presidential election.
Roth is now focusing on a seat in the United States House of Representatives. The seat in question is from the Green Bay-based 8th District of Wisconsin. Incumbent Mike Gallagher, a much more moderate Republican and Chairman of the House China Committee, has chosen not to seek re-election. Roth has entered the primary race to succeed Gallagher.
It marks the second time that Roth has run for the U.S. House in Wisconsin’s 8th District. He previously did so in 2010, losing the Republican nomination to moderate and eventual general election winner Reid Ribble.
Previously, Roth had been elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2006 and again in 2008. In 2014, he won a seat in the Wisconsin Senate for the first time. Three years later, he became President of the Senate.
