Sen. Baldwin celebrates new federal investment in Wisconsin tech sector

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — Senator Tammy Baldwin is celebrating a win for Wisconsin’s growing Biohealth technology sector.

On Tuesday, Baldwin announced that the Badger State will receive $49 million in federal grants for its Biohealth Tech Hub. This comes after the state was officially designated a Regional Tech Hub by the federal government in October of last year.

The funds are another boost for the growing Biohealth industry, which employed over 50,000 workers and accounted for $32 million in annual economic activity as of 2022.

Baldwin says today’s announcement means the industry will continue to expand.

“This investment in the Badger State is projected to create more than 30,000 jobs and 9 billion dollars of economic development in its first ten years,” she told reporters during a call Tuesday.

The Biohealth Tech Hub’s goal is to make Wisconsin a global leader in personalized medicine, a treatment approach that uses genetic and environmental factors to individualize patient care.
