Costco opens first-ever store in Maine, 600th store opened in Wisconsin; 17 new U.S. stores planned

In a recent earnings call, Costco CEO Ron Vachris announced the company has successfully opened 30 new warehouse locations in the past year, including its first-ever building in Maine. This expansion brings Costco’s total presence to 47 states, with the 600th U.S. location inaugurated in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Looking ahead, Vachris outlined plans for fiscal 2025, which includes an additional 29 store openings—17 in the U.S. and 12 internationally. Among these is a new facility in Zaragoza, Spain, marking the company’s fifth building in the country. Of the upcoming openings, three will involve relocations, while the remaining 26 will be entirely new constructions.

In its fiscal report, Costco revealed an investment of $4.7 billion in land, buildings, and equipment for new warehouses and distribution centers during the 2024 fiscal year, with similar spending anticipated for the next year. Currently, Costco operates 614 stores in the U.S. and a total of 890 worldwide, reporting nearly $7.4 billion in profits for 2024.
