MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and Sen. Tammy Baldwin both reacted to Former President Jimmy Carter’s death on Sunday.
Sen. Baldwin posted on her X and Facebook accounts about Carter’s death.
President Carter was a leader who dedicated his life to fighting for others. While he will be sorely missed, his legacy of compassion, humility, and service will long be remembered and honored. My heart is with the Carter family and American people mourning this loss.
Gov. Evers, like many politicians across the nation, released a statement on Carter and his legacy. The Wisconsin governor will make a forthcoming executive order to put Wisconsin and U.S. flags to half-staff for thirty days following a president’s death, in conjunction with federal law.
Former President Carter was a committed and dedicated advocate for peace, human rights, and treating others with dignity, decency, and respect—qualities that earned him respect and admiration from many across our country and around the world. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of humanitarian and public health achievements not only during and throughout his presidency but beyond it, as well.
