First Alert Weather: Sub-zero wind chills make for a frigid first weekend of 2025

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – It’s early January, so no surprise we are dealing with some very cold weather, but it’s coming off a rather mild stretch. Friday was the first day in nearly two weeks that temperatures came up short of average. The cold snap comes as the jet stream drops through the central and eastern U.S. from Canada. An arctic high pressure system over Alberta will keep Wisconsin in northwest flow through the weekend and even much of next week. While the cold will keep our high temperatures at least ten degrees below average, it will at least come with sunny weather. Unfortunately, northwest breezes will persist, leading to sub-zero wind chill values through Saturday and much of Sunday.
