Staten Island councilmembers slam Mayor Mamdani for skipping pied-à-terre hearing

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s pied-à-terre tax won’t be an official topic of discussion Tuesday thanks largely to a lawsuit brought by a pair of Staten Islanders.

City Hall spokesperson Matt Rauschenbach said the administration’s avoidance of the hearing was because of ongoing litigation against the tax, which proponents say, will raise about $500 million annually.

Members of the City Council were hoping to question the administration about the tax and its controversial rollout at a Tuesday hearing.
