STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A utility pole snapped at its base and crashed into the roadway in Ocean Breeze on Friday, bringing down a tangle of overhead wires.
The damaged pole came down near the corner of Olympia Boulevard and Liberty Avenue, where power and utility lines were left draped across the street and sidewalk.
The wooden pole appeared to have broken near ground level, scattering splintered debris across the sidewalk. No damaged vehicles were immediately visible at the location, and it was not immediately clear what knocked over the pole…
