Staten Island Family Accuses Landlord of Making Their Home Unlivable

One of the biggest perks of renting a property has to be the fact that you’re usually not responsible for repairs and routine maintenance, since the homeowner generally covers those expenses as part of your lease agreement. And that’s a good thing too, since the costs associated with owning a home can really add up.

However, a family that has been renting a home in Staten Island for the past four years says that their landlord hasn’t exactly been living up to his end of the bargain. Instead, they claim that the landlord they’ve been renting from for the past four years has failed to keep up with repairs and even turned off the home’s utilities at one point.

And that’s not all. The anonymous family told Staten Island Advance that the home has essentially become unlivable due to all of the issues and deferred maintenance. They’ve even reached out to the city for help. According to the daughter who spoke on behalf of her family, the city was able to get their electric turned back on, but it sounds like it’s a case of “too little, too late.”…
