STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A three-time political candidate whose past and current campaigns have been embroiled in controversy joined the ranks of the NYPD earlier this year while simultaneously campaigning for a seat in the New York State Senate, raising some questions as to the policies and procedures that surround police officers seeking elected office in New York City.
