STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Savoring mariachi music and big bands in a cool September breeze, the Lorenzo family cheered on marchers in Sunday’s Mexican Independence Day Parade. The fifth annual celebration of Mexican pride along Port Richmond Avenue near their home also brought out a collective appreciation for Staten Island.
