Loaded gun seized from 17-year-old at Staten Island high school, charges pending

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police recovered a loaded gun after a 17-year-old boy allegedly walked into a Staten Island high school with the weapon on Wednesday morning, the NYPD said.

He was taken into custody at about 10:15 a.m. at Curtis High School, located at 105 Hamilton Ave. in St. George, according to police.

The Department of Education said in a statement that the weapon was safely recovered by police after “brave students voiced concern.”

The teen is being questioned and charges against him are pending. It was not immediately clear if he was a student at the school, or a visitor.

“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and all students and staff are safe,” the DOE said. “All safety procedures were followed, and we are working closely with NYPD regarding follow-up actions.”
