Of all the cabinet and agency appointees President-elect Donald Trump has tapped since winning election, Tom Homan’s appointment as “border czar” has probably grabbed the largest share of the spotlight. His no-nonsense, tough-on-crime stance has generated headlines and won him admirers on the right, as well as detractors on the left. But Homan has made it clear that as soon as Trump finishes saying the final word of the Oath of Office his Border Patrol agents will hit the ground running.
New York City is especially keeping an eye on Homan, as over 200,000 migrants have been packed into the sanctuary city in the past four years. Homan appeared on the WOR Morning Show to describe the challenges and responsibilities of his mission, starting with the anticipated deportation of illegal migrants with criminal records.
The outspoken Homan told host Larry Mendte how he wants to return ICE to Riker’s Island to start chipping away at the problem. “Before Trump became President the first time, we had a dozen agents sitting at Riker’s Island every day to arrest illegal aliens that they put in jail for some criminal charge. When they got done with them, we took them, and we got kicked out of Riker’s Island out of that whole sanctuary policy. I’ve said it before to Eric Adams, as the mayor of the city and a career cop, who in their right mind wants public safety threats to be walking your streets? President Trump’s been very clear- I’ve been very clear- that we’re going to prioritize first public safety threats and national security threats.”
