STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — GallopNYC is expanding its stables to Staten Island, establishing a horseback riding community for seniors, those with disabilities, and first responders battling trauma.
The not-for-profit group will be taking over Ocean Breeze Stables by the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. It will be the third iteration of the program within the five boroughs.
“Our goal is to serve more New Yorkers with our transformative programs,” GallopNYC Founder Alicia Kershaw said. “We are fortunate to add this great facility to our community. The Ocean Breeze stables offer a functional and beautiful space where we can reach more people in need of the unique benefits GallopNYC’s programs provide.”
The programs soon to be available at the Ocean Breeze stables, “will cater to children and adults with disabilities, veterans overcoming trauma, first responders managing stress and older adults seeking wellness and connection,’’ according to an announcement of the opening.
GallopNYC was the “highest rated bidder” in a spring 2022 proposal search by the New York City Parks Department, giving the organization the opportunity to establish itself on the Island. Though the nonprofit will be the main operator of Ocean Breeze Stables via a pending temporary use authorization, the NYC Parks Enforcement Patrol Mounted Unit will remain in the space as well…
