Jersey City Ward E council candidate Alexander Hamilton is sounding off on a “nightmare trifecta” that’s about to happen to downtown commuters.
“Downtown Jersey City residents are being squeezed like never before. Just weeks before taking the Hoboken PATH station offline for 25 days in February, the Port Authority is set to hike PATH fares to $3 starting next Monday, January 12th—Meanwhile, NYC’s congestion pricing plan began this week slapping drivers with up to $22 daily fees to enter Manhattan,” he began in a statement,
“These policies are a slap in the face to hardworking commuters who already endure overcrowded trains, delays, and rising tolls. For many in Jersey City, the PATH is not a luxury but a lifeline—a critical link to jobs, schools, and essential services. Yet instead of investing in better service, the Port Authority is asking riders to pay more for the same subpar experience.”
Hamilton, who is running on Council President Joyce Watterman’s ticket, added that the closure of the Hoboken PATH station will make public transit even more difficult, while New York City’s congestion pricing will making driving more unaffordable…
