NYPD: 5 Staten Island men charged after traffic stop uncovers loaded firearm

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Five men from Staten Island are facing charges after an early morning traffic stop in West Brighton allegedly turned up a loaded firearm.

It was around 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, when authorities say they observed Antoine Thurmond, 19, of Mariners Harbor, driving a gray Nissan Altima in the vicinity of Bement Avenue and Richmond Terrace.

Inside the Nissan with Thurmond were four other individuals – all from Mariners Harbor – according to court documents. Law enforcement claims that Marcus Phanelson, 19, was seated in the front passenger seat; Zion Louis, 20, took up the rear middle seat; Alberto Nelson, 19, sat in the rear passenger side seat; and Jalani Reid, 19, took the seat behind Thurmond…
