New York plane crash causes at least one death as aircraft plummets into field

A tragic plane crash has left one confirmed fatality after a Mitsubishi MU-2B aircraft with six passengers onboard went down in a muddy Copake field, New Yor k on Saturday morning.

Just after an 11.30 am liftoff, the twin-engine plane lost altitude en route to Columbia County Airport, just 50 miles from Albany, prompting a swift response from emergency crews who struggled against snowy conditions and treacherous terrain to reach the crash site. The crash represents the second fatal aircraft accident in the New York region in recent days after the Hudson helicopter crash , a tragic incident now being probed with a bird theory under investigation.

Columbia’s Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore addressed the media, stating: “It’s in the middle of a field, and it’s pretty muddy, so accessibility is difficult.”…
