‘Some type of oil spill’ discovered in Staten Island pond; residents raise alarm about polluted area

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A suspected “oil spill” is polluting a pond and endangering wildlife in a green space near Tottenville High School, raising concerns among area residents and nature enthusiasts.

The Advance/SILive.com observed a red-colored substance floating on the surface of the water in the pond located next to Eylandt Street near Chisholm Street and Luten Avenue.

A strong chemical odor was present throughout the wooded area that borders Huguenot and Prince’s Bay as part of a nature sanctuary near Wolfe’s Pond Park…
