#fyiSI: Staten Island mobile home residents still trapped by truck traffic, manager says

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Nearly three months after the Advance/SILive.com investigated the potentially life-threatening traffic effectively locking Staten Islanders inside their community, the problem continues, according to its general manager.

Members of Goethals Community — the only mobile home park on Staten Island — have been trapped within the confines of the park due to tractor trailers heading to Port Liberty every time a ship comes in to unload its cargo.

Even with new signage installed by the Department of Transportation in the early part of the year, the driveways in and out of the community remain blocked, Goethals Community Manager Richard Auchmoody told the Advance/SILive.com.

In a letter written to Borough President Vito Fossella, Auchmoody wrote: “This has been a problem for some time, and we’ve had ambulances [get stuck].”…
