After disturbing incident, some riders call for increased police presence on Staten Island Railway

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — After a man reportedly exposed himself in front of a woman on the Staten Island Railway, riders recently said they don’t feel less safe due to the incident — but some questioned whether there should be more of a police presence on the trains.

“I’m not surprised [to hear about the indecent exposure incident]. I don’t see the police at all,” said Timothy Miller, an Oakwood resident who rides the Staten Island Railway to commute to work.

“There’s never any cops around, especially in the morning or after 5 p.m.,” he added. “Sometimes you see them when you’re at the ferry, but even then they aren’t on the platforms or cars, unless they’re undercover.”…
