An iconic diner and fresh fruit stand gave way to pizzeria in Dongan Hills |Then and Now

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The neighborhood of Dongan Hills was named after Thomas Dongan, the 17th-century British governor of New York.

One of its main thoroughfares is the five-mile-long Richmond Road, which has seen its share of iconic businesses over the decades.
