‘Truly a gift’: FDNY memorial unveiled on Staten Island, 2 years after site destroyed in freak crash

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Two years ago, an FDNY memorial site in Concord was destroyed when a teenager in a stolen car crashed into it.

On Saturday, the FDNY Staten Island Retirees made things right again.

“We’ve been working for a very long time on this and its finally complete,” said Woody Wall, President of the FDNY Staten Island retirees during a ceremony to unveil the refurbished site.

The memorial, located across from FDNY Engine 160/Rescue 5/Division 8, includes two stone monuments and a statue in honor of the Staten Islanders who have made the “supreme sacrifice”— as one FDNY official put it…
